I originally bought this CD after hearing Type O Negative's cover of "Black Sabbath". Just when I thought that song couldn't get any eerier! I was pleasantly surprised to find other treasures on this tribute album. After listening to the CD, my favorite track is "Symptom of the Universe" by Sepultura. Thrash is my favorite music genre ever! With that being said, I was also happy that Megadeth did a good job of covering "Paranoid". Now for the disappointments. I am a HUGE Iron Maiden fan but was totally disappointed with "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" coverd by Bruce Dickinson and Godspeed. I just expected more from one of the greatest metal frontmen ever (in my opinion). But the award for worst of the worst, the song that they should have left on the cutting room floor, goes to Faith No More's live rendition of "War Pigs". The lead singer forgot the lyrics! On War Pigs?! Total sacrilege of such a classic. I quickly fast forwarded to stop my ears from bleeding. At first, I wasn't crazy about "Supernaut" by 1000 Homo DJs because I don't listen to that type of music but it's growing on me. Ozzy even covers "Iron Man" which I thought a little strange. Can this really be considered a "cover" since he was the original singer of Black Sabbath? I mean, if I want to hear Ozzy sing "Iron Man", I'll just pull out the old Paranoid album and listen to the original. Ain't nothin' like the real thing baby! Instead of this track, they should have just included Cathedral's cover of "Solitude" which only appears on the European version. All of the other songs were good. At the end of the day, I am happy with my purchase and have already recommended it to friends. It's rare to like every song on a cover album. But this one is 80% there which makes it a must have for Sabbath fans as far as I'm concerned. You gotta respect them all for trying to cover these songs. By the way, I just saw an awesome Black Sabbath cover band from NYC called Into The Void. Fantastic show! If you can catch them live, do it! Singer sounds just like a young Ozzy and the rest of the musicians are flawless as well.Read full review
This album is probably the best tribute album ever made! All the bands playing make a great effort on combining their own style without making a degradation of the songs itself. I really like all the album, but the songs that I am more impressed due to the ability of covering the songs are: Biohazard - After Forever (and actually I'm not a fan of this band) White Zombie - Children of the Grave (that groove sound was made even bigger with them!) Sepultura - Symptom of the universe (magnificent cover!) and the best song of the album for me: Type O Negative - Black Sabbath Sounds like pretentious, but I do like more this cover version than the original! \m/
Just as described.
