In this Haggada in the JPS Commentary collection, Joseph Tabory, one of the world's leading authorities on the history of the haggadah, traces the development of the seder and the haggadah through the ages. The book features an extended introduction by Tabory, the classic Hebrew haggadah text side by side with its English translation, and Tabory's clear and insightful critical-historical commentary. Personally, it put the Exodus under a "scientific" microscope and though the author confirms some things, I felt that the "spirit" of this night was missing. After all this is a religious event, not a critical scientific ritual! I'd stick to the traditional commentaries and enjoy the seder. This may be a good read during the day, not tonight!
