For the Byrds, one of the great American groups of the 1960's, this album represented their fourth studio recording. Many consider this effort to be one of their very best. The classic Byrds folk-rock sound was still intact, as show by their beautiful interpretation of Bob Dylan's "My Back Pages." This album also marked the emergence of bassist Chris Hillman as a serious contributor. He co-wrote the wry and ironic "So You Want to be a Rock and Roll Star" with guitarist Jim (Roger) McGuinn, and added a touch of country with several compositions, including most notably "Time Between." David Crosby was still an important member of the group at this time, contributing rich vocal harmonies and unique compositions such as "Everyone Has Been Burned." This is a unique recording from a hugely influential group.Read full review
