This is an effective guide to casino LIMIT holdem, at least in the US. It probably applies to other countries as well. Limit Holdem is a very profitable game for professionals willing to learn the material, with Far less risk involved (especially for beginners) than NO limit holdem. Ive read books by two plus two publishing and they are amazing; specifically Ed Millers work. I was extremely surprised that this book seems to be reiterating many of Ed Millers concepts presented in Getting Started in Hold Em - yet The Complete Book of Hold Em Poker was printed four years prior!! Ed Millers beginners book on holdem, by comparison, is significantly more consolidated, offers more in the basics of more holdem variations than specifically Limit holdem, and is a bit easier to digest (although this becomes less true Ed Millers more advanced books). The Complete Book of Hold Em Poker is an extended book on Limit holdem that begins at the basics of casino procedures and crucial beginner concepts, to more detailed analysis of gameplay that professionals utilize in each hand. If youre looking to get some footing against the very real competition out there, this is one of my top recommendations although Id suggest (as Carson mentions) to play MUCH TIGHTER THAN THE PREFLOP CHARTS RECOMMEND at first. If you are a seasoned player, the strikingly clear nature of the information presented in this book will definitely be of help. It will fill in the blanks that you may not even known had existed in your play. To make money in the long run, you must know when the play is clearly correct or incorrect. Carson lays it out. It seems important to mention that a good poker book is clear and segmented so that you can learn and review topics easily. It requires a good amount of studying to succeed against the competition in the long run, as well as re-reading of these books. I prefer the clear nature of this book to the more advanced books of Ed Millers and David Sklanskys because it is very easy to understand and review. My opinion as with any poker book Ive read is that it requires supplementing by other books to be most effective. A beginner is going to do extremely well if he integrates Getting Started in Hold Em by Ed Miller in combination (possibly prior to) this book. A more advanced player can go ahead and pickup any Sklansky book and start plowing through it (preferably after this book). The guy is a gambling genius, and you need to be ready to do some thinking and serious development as a player if you intend to study Sklanskys extensive work on poker. Gary Carsons ideas can infrequently conflict with those of very successful and reputable players. My opinion, for what its worth is that its valuable to understand both and that the players at your table are an important variable to consider when determining which theory will be most successful. The majority of these concepts can be taken for face value and are confirmed by other definitive books on the subject.Read full review
Good book for the beginner or the established player. Its always good to get another persons view of the game. You mix all the books you can read into one mindset and become the player you want to be!
