I bought this to accompany the T-Bone Walker bio I was reading. terrible book, but the music is better. I recognized he was influential as a guitarist but damn if every song doesn't sound the same

T-Bone defines THE BLUES as we know it. I consider this man to be the crossover from the Country Style Blues to the Modern Blues. There are other artists that share the "crossover" load, some earlier, some later, but the image of T-Bone with those archtop guitars and the sounds of fretting and voicings coming through on his leads and solos just takes it to a sweet level. His vocals too are wonderful to listen to. I would have loved to see/hear him in person. In fact, every time I walk into a Blues bar or club in Chicago, I hear him! A must have set for anyone wanting to learn the history of the Blues.
From the vast discography of this stellar modern electric blues master are 52 selections covering a prolific early 50's stint with Imperial (1950-54). Highlights include an outstanding instrumental with Eddie Davis on tenor sax -"Strollin with Bone". This is a superb collection of tracks that truely define the idiom of the blues today. A comprehensive companion booklet traces Walker's enduring career from the 20's carnival and medicine shows, experiments with amplification in late 30's, triumphs in 40's and 50's signposting the modern electric guitar movement. A solid collection which is sure to satisfy the avid blues collector or whet the appetite of the casual listener. Complements the Complete Capitol/Black & White Recordings that chronicle the 40's phase (3 CD collection 1995.)
Great CD! More than 50 of T Bone Walker's incredible guitar playing and great blues vocals. T Bone was one of the first 'electric' guitarists and influenced Chuck Berry, Charlie Christian, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix and many others. Google T Bone Walker video Call Me When You Need Me with Shakey Jake Harris on vocals. Priceless. T Bone's guitar and Shakey's voice are sweet. This CD is a must have for anyone who loves good blues.
