I knew the components are metal castings, so I was not expecting crisp resolution. However, I did expect the parts to be at least square and not warped. I thought that perhaps the one I received was from a bad batch, so I ordered a second one with the more recent packaging which would be from a different batch. The parts were a bit better, but still unacceptably warped. The part that is especially troublesome is the engine compartment. The top is NOT square to the ends, as if it was in an accident. Unacceptable. Even with 2 kits, there still aren't enough good parts to make a single decent grader. A major disappointment. :-(

This is an older kit. The detail is not up to current standards, lots of flash to remove, some parts were not completely cast and fit is just OK. This makes it a challenge for an experienced modeler, but could be frustrating for a beginner. The drive wheel sets are the same for both sides, the tire treads are "directional" so they face opposite direction when they are installed. Not accurate on a real grader. This is very apparent on the finished model. The final result is a unique old version of a Caterpillar Model 12 grader.

This model was kitbashed into a pulled grader before the motorizing took place. Typically horses, a tractor, or a dozer would tow the grader. This kit provided the basis for backdating it into an interesting model. A word about Woodland Scenics - I have had two kits with missing or wrong parts that when reported to Woodland Scenics were replaced promptly. I always send photos of the issues so they know that I am not scamming them. They are very good at following up. The kits are often challenging but very rewarding. Roger

This product did not miss "the mark", it is not a toy but a scenic add on for model railroads or other dioramas in HO scale. It has many small and fragile parts and that is why I listed it as not durable. It definitely firs the purpose for what I bought it for and would buy other similar products, if desired.
