I bought this movie because of Roger and Hammerstien's stellar record of producing famous classic musicals. As I love the story of Cinderella, I thought the combination of favorite story with unserpassed musical genious could prove to be a fabulous experience. And it is! This movie deserves to be right up their with their other famous productions! The musical scores are undeniably Roger & Hammerstien style, and the lyrics are absolutely engaging!!! (You will be singing these delightful tunes for the next week!) This movie is near the top of my musical favorites; both for enchanting songs and enchanting performance. A real treat indeed for any fan of musical films. The story begins with a glimps into the heart of Cinderella's prince. Wearily he returns to his kingdom after extensive and perilous travels. And his one regrett is that he has not found his true love. Cinderella is portrayed delightfully by Lesley Ann Warren, whose kind heart and vivid imagination cannot be crushed by a cruel and demeaning stepmother. Cinderella's stepmother and sisters are a constant sourse of amusement. And the prince has a fabulous sence of humour! It is pure magic when Cinderella appears at the ball, and the true love that blossoms between her and the prince is so joyous and tender that it can not fail to melt your heart! Absolutely first rate family entertainment that will sweep you off your feet, lift your spirits, and make you believe that impossible things really can happen every day! Worth every penny!Read full review
When my girls were small, before the remake of this on Disney, I rented this 1965 production that I watched as a little girl. My middle daughter, then 5, asked me a month ago if we watched a Cinderella a long time ago, or if she just dreamed it, and if she remembered correctly, would I try to find it. I had a very hard time finding it on DVD, but since we still have a working VCR, why not try to find it still on tape. Well, it was pretty easy. We have not watched it, but tonight since it's cold and snowy, I think I'll have my now grown daughters come over with the grandbaby, and watch it.
I looked casually for this video for years and after I had my little girl it was a must find! Find it I did and it was just as I remembered from my childhood and wonderous even after all these years. Although the "special effects" seemed a bit archaic, the musical score reminds us why Rodgers & Hammerstein were the genius team they were. The songs remain relevant and some, still hauntingly beautiful. Leslie Ann Warren is Cinderella for a generation of little girls and Stuart Damon is handsome and regal as the prince. Their duets are lovely and Ginger Rogers waltzing as Queen Constantina is as elegant as ever.
I really enjoy musicals and had this movie before and then lent it out and been wanting it again. now I have it and will keep this one for my granddaughters

This is my all-time favorite version of CINDERELLA . It's like a movie of a play with simple sets and some special effects. I love the songs and the casting is wonderful ..... Leslie Ann Warren, Walter Pigeon, Ginger Rogers, Celeste Holm, Pat Carroll. It's a great CINDERELLA without the cutsy animated gimmicks and without the splashy panoramic production.
