Notes
Those who write songs strive to touch the listener. The best do it with both subtlety and power. Judi's album Shut Up and Be Nice is her first offering and it explores a range of thought provoking ideas from the witty to the poignant. The melodies are at times warm and comfortable, at times challenging and unpredictable. Her voice is individual and lovely. But what makes this album special is the poetry. In her ballad 'Love Caught Her' the line "only the hallway heard her cry" distills the sense of a woman's desperate isolation to it's very essence. In this song she takes on the difficult subject of domestic violence, but manages to do it with insight and grace. In her less solemn pieces the poetry is no less interesting. The melodies will resonate the first time that you hear them, and you will find yourself singing them the second. She will make you smile, sometimes laugh, and sometimes cry. This is a collection for those who want to feel life when they listen to their music. Judi brought her complete songs, music and lyrics, to Robert Berry at Soundtek Studios in Campbell, California. Together they talked 'vibe' and 'emotion' and Robert applied his musical genius to the instrumentation. The result is true Singer-Songwriter with brilliant emotional tone and superb musicianship. Judi's voice is warm, rich and lives in her songs. Each tune is a showcase of how well she relates to her material. You get it from the first listen, and it gets better from there.
