I'm not sure Ms. Braun is writting her own books anymore. The earlier novels were great...lots of adventure that involved Qwill and the cats, Koko and Yum Yum, but now the stories have become more bland....that shouldn't happen. If anything, they should become better over time. This was not one of Ms. Braun's best stories. It left us dangling on a lot of questions, but you read on because it now is more about the people who live in Moose County and their day to day lives. Like a soap opera, but without the sex. Speaking of which, Polly and Qwill seem so squeaky clean in their relationship after all these years it makes one wonder? Do they even kiss? This 26th book is about the town of Brr celebrating its bicentennial and Qwill has been roped into covering the festivities. The groundbreaking reveals a grisly discovery of a man's body nearby Qwill's own property. People are thinking it is a killer that has been using the same MO in northern Michigan. Outside of this, Qwill is having problems with Koko who wants Qwill to read the same book over and over, one that Qwill can't stand. Then there is the sudden appearance of wild turkeys, not seen in Moose County for 30 years. As I stated.....if you read it more for the goings on in the town and the colorful people, rather than any big mystery, you'll enjoy the book.Read full review
I love Lilian Jackson Braun and this book was wanted to replace another copy that was not of good quality. This book looks like new. The dust jacket was perfect. There were no writing or smudges on the pages and the spine was in new condition. This book was obviously never read. This is a perfect addition to my LJB collection.

Like: Compared to "Cat who brought down the house", this book was slightly better. This series used to be a highly witty, entertaining read..until the publication of the Cat who Went up a Creek. Starting with 'Creek', the books started becoming weaker and weaker in 'mystery', often spending 1/4 of the book 'introducing' Jim Qwilleran to readers. They have all recently been geared towards new readers, seemingly. Dislike: Concentrated on day to day life of Mr. Q, and the murder mystery plot seemed buried. Every once in a chapter a mention would be made to the 'mysterious man who was murdered on Mr. Q's property', but the plot was never developed. Instead, the book seemed more like a summary of all the previous books...every time a character stepped into the book (Arch Riker comes over), Qwill's history with said character is reviewed..again and again and again.Read full review
I am trying to collect all The Cat Who books by Lilian Jackson Braun. I enjoy Reading about James Qwilleran, and other members of the Pickax City, that live 400 miles miles north of everywhere. Each book makes me want to visit this ficitonal town and meet the interesting people that live there. I am not a cat lover but I enjoy the antics of Koko and Yum Yum. Qwilleran's two Siamese cats. Ms Braun's writing style is comforting. Even when a bad deed is done the goodness of Qwilleran and his friends is always there. I hope to buy and collect all "The Cat Who" books by Lilian Jackson Braun. I want to read the history, in the order they were written, to see how the different people have grown and matured, just like real life.
Love it! Fabulous books in great condition! Happy customer!
