As a horticulture science student I'm always looking for helpful books on plants. This one caught my eye with the history of the plants names. Diana Wells gives over 250 pages of factual and legendary stories on the names of these flowers and the people who discovered them and shared them with the rest of the world. Interesting reading and great for a little trivia as you garden or sell these particular flowers. Botanical and family names are given with each story. There are also helpful line drawings by Ippy Patterson of each flower with the text. A nice feature is the further reading section in the back, giving five pages of other gardening authors and their books. The index lists the flowers by their common name and Latin names for easy reference. The only addition I would possibly make are color photos but that's just me and my love of color! I would recommend this book as an interesting addition to your horticulture library.Read full review
The information itself is interesting and enjoyable but would be more helpful if the flower pictures were in color. The book cover shows color pictures of the flowers so that is misleading.

I am pleased with the book but am disappointed that the cover is plain green and not the pretty flower one that is shown in the picture.

Just when I was wondering what to give my gardening friends for the holidays, this little gem is perfect! And well priced, too.

I bought this book as a gift for a friend of mine and she loves it. She has told me that the stories of how the names of gods were used in flower naming is most interesting.
