Most people believe that they have "free will", even when it comes to theological matters. In this treatise, Martin Luther refuted that dominant belief by showing that people only have "free will" in matters "below", or of an earthly matter. When it comes to matters of faith in the one, true God as revealed in Christ via Holy Scripture, we are all slaves to sin and require the supernatural power of God the Holy Spirit to even begin to comprehend God in Christ as Savior. It is simply impossible for sinful man to see Jesus as Lord God Almighty, Savior of the world.
All these churches that claim to be reformed, all these different denominations, all quote Martin Luther. But do you really know what he stood for? Read this book it will be light to you all

I read "The Bondage of the Will" about 30 years ago and felt at that time it was probably the best book I had read up to that time. This is not "milk" but very definately gets to the "meat" of the deep mysteries of the sovereign God of the scriptures and his dealings with his creation. Truth stands the test of time and after 500 years, these truths remain as powerful as they were when they were first written. The Packer/Johnston translation is reputed to be the best available.
Excellent book, exactly what I wanted, thank you
