This was the final book Lilian Jackson Braun allegedly wrote. However, from the 2nd chapter to the close, the writing style changed. Most believe that a ghost writer finished it at the insistence of the publishers. All the different story lines were wrapped up, but it was done poorly and in a rushed manner.

Koko is giving off signals that's something's afoot and it takes his human a while to figure it out. Lillian Braun's books are a fun, uncomplicated read for those times you just want to relax and have quiet fun. This one surpried me a bit as a long time relationship came to an end and you were left hanging. Will have to wait until the next edition to find out what transpires. I love shopping on ebay. I set a price and if I win I'm happy; if I don't there will most likely be more of the same at a price I want to pay...such as this book. Although used, it was like new and the price was right.
I decided to buy this product because I had read 5 of "The Cat Who" books previously and enjoyed them. They are light reading so I found I could just relax and even read while others in the room were watching TV. I am a cat lover and could relate and smile in agreement when the author spoke of the cats and their activities. I also enjoyed the detail that the author put in the book concerning the appearance of rooms, people, etc. I have read other books that seemed to be mostly dialogue and found myself skipping over paragraphs.
Back when the "Cat Who" books first began, there were actual suspenseful mysteries to be solved. Well, the last few books have really done a turn around. All of a sudden the books leave questions unanswered and most of the story is repeating itself from previous books into oblivion. I truly miss Ms. Braun's old style writing. For as long as Polly and Qwill have been together, well, you just don't phone someone from Paris and break off your relationship. Then the barn burning and Qwill acting like it was no big deal. The "mystery" was barely worth mentioning. Nobody said if they burned the barn or someone else did the deed. Qwill is already set up with a new girlfriend, a head librarian. I have a feeling this is the next to the last book.
I have been an avid "The Cat Who" reader for years. Just love these books. Tell Lillian Jackson Braun that she could never wite too many!!! This last book sure had some surprises!! Barn burned down??? What was she thinking?? and Polly's gone? I quess this brings it up to the 21st Century!!! Lost love - new love. Can't wait till next book - will Quill replace the Barn and what will it be? Please don't keep us waiting too long. The only suggestion I have is please let the females have some fun too. Yum Yum is really "special" too. Keep them coming!!
