This book offers excellent exit strategies from life's rat race. Foster shows finese in cutting through the fat of our society and pointing to a life lived up-side-right in an up-side-down world. What an easy read with plenty of depth to make it is well worth a re-read. Foster's book is targeted at the person who gives a rip about making a connect between their Christian faith and their world. The liberating concepts gift rise to life lived with significance but not always in the fast lane. Chapters 3 and 7 of this book are worth the entire book even if the rest was unavailable.
I was a bit surprised while reading this book, since I was expecting a "simple" read about simple living. It turned out to be very "deep". I enjoyed all of the historical references and learned a lot about the history of the art of "simplicity". I was a bit taken aback by the numerous "promotions" of socialism or some form of it. Although I strongly believe in helping others, I do not agree with the principals of socialism. A good book if you are looking for a intense study of the history of simplicity. If you are looking for a comfortable, easy, summer read on how to simplify your life this is not the book for you.
