I really like this little knife. The FRN handle feels more rigid than I expected and has great traction. The lock is so stiff that I'm tempted to deduct a star, but with a stout thumb flick the blade snaps out with authority, so I'll just appreciate the strong lock instead. if your finger is anywhere in the front most groove on the grip. you needn't worry about cutting yourself closing it because the choil contacts your finger long before any part of the really really sharp blade. It is a very nice size for one handed operation and it carries very nicely.

The Native 5 is the goldilocks of edc pocket folders- just right! The flat ground blade makes it a comfortable slicer, and the back lock is just the right width and tension- much better than my Chaparral! This one, and my Tenacious are my on-duty and off-duty edcs respectively.

Very sturdy useful knife. Locks up in a strong and reliable way with back lock system. Knife is very light weight and easy to EDC. Ergonomics of the handle and overall handling are superb. This knife has what it should have - and serves as an excellent tool. Plastic is thick and high quality.

Great EDC knife! Knife is small enough to be legal in many jurisdictions but big enough to have great ergonomics. It's so lightweight you'll forget it's in the pocket. I recommend buying one of the older stocks which were made with CPM-35VN as the newest version has S30V which is also a great steel but with S35VN you'll get more for your money. Overall it's an awesome USA made knife.

Spyderco makes excellent knives using high end steels at affordable price points. This lightweight version of the Native 5 is no exception. The ergos fill the hand nicely and are on point for just about any hand size I should think. It's light and disappears in your pocket. I really appreciate the grippy bidirectional FRN, it gives a secure purchase and confidence in hand. The lockback mechanism is a proven design and locks securely with no blade play in any direction. The grinds are nice and even with little marks. It comes super sharp out of the box. I like the edge holding of S35vn although Spyderco's keen edges make this blade susceptible to edge roll which I encountered on my first "hard use" of this knife cutting carpet. A light touch up and an added micro bevel solves the issue for me. I use this knife to open packages, dog food bags, for yard and garden work, kayak fishing and as a food prep knife in the kitchen. I really like this knife. It's a solid, versatile folder with a great steel that won't break the bank.Read full review
