Do I like this book? You be the judge; this is my FOURTH copy. Patrick Royce is a VERY talented illustrator. His illustrations from both the artistic and technical aspect are worth the purchase price of the WHOLE book; don't take this to mean that his writing talents are lacking; they are not. In my opinion, large scale prints of his "drawings", properly framed, would make excellent wall art for a sailor's den. Non-sailors that appreciate artistic talent would do well to look into Royce's illustrations---they are THAT good. In general, any edition of Royce's would be a good, handily sized reference for beginning or experienced sailors and just plain good reading for most other people. This book would probably increase your enjoyment of movies such as 'Waterworld' and 'Master and Commander' Did you know that Kevin Costner's trimaran in 'Waterworld' was, in some of the scenes, clipping along at 30 knots? If you don't know how fast that is, buy Royce's and enjoy finding out. Darn it, now I have to read this book again---I have forgotten what a knot is. Alzheimer's lets me read this book again (and again?) and enjoy it as much as the first time. Just kidding---It is an enjoyable read multiple times, even if you have all of your faculties. In short, THIS IS A GREAT BOOK !!!! This one will be sent to a friend who no longer sails but enjoys the memories, both good and bad. (As do I)Read full review

Forget the in depth expensive sailing books. This book gives you the details you need. This is the second copy I have owned. I am good with my books, but I wore my last copy out.
