This system is great for all weather conditions. My black bag was never used, still in the plastic, the patrol bag was lightly used. It is very warm and well constructed. I added a Therm-a-rest Hiker, same as the Military type sleeping pad, put it right inside the bivouac bag. Great in a tent or on the ground by itself. Used it in a hammock without the Bivy. A Bit Heavy for long backpacking trip with all the components.

Haven't actually taken it out in -40 degree temps yet, but it appears as though it will be good. One layer does have a small hole in it about the size of a half dollar, but I assume that is because it's army surplus and is slightly used. It has 4 pieces and three of them pack into a nice storage back pack.

This is the best sleeping bag / system I have found for the money. Each piece can be used individually or together depending on your needs. This system is great for summer, winter, rain and snow. It is hard to find a sleeping bag that can be used in the summer, fall, winter, rain, freezing rain and snow that is this good anywhere near this price. This system is water proof/resistant depending on whether you consider Gortex water proof or water resistant. I found that Gortex is excellent for keeping you dry even in the rain. We originally bought this for my son and his Boy Scout camping trips because they require that he have a sleeping bag that is good down to Zero degrees and they camp rain or shine. We could not afford to buy 3 separate sleeping bags to cover the summer winter and fall use so we purchased this stem which fit all our needs. It is not light like a down bag but is as light or lighter than most of the other Synthetic sleeping bags in this price range.Read full review

After some issues with our postman, I finally got my package. The sleep system was actually in better shape that half the stuff I got issued when I was serving. It's the same model as we used so I'm well aware of it's quality. Upon inspection of the gear, I found it to be in excellent condition even though it was prior issued. It smelled a little like Febreeze which was a pleasant surprise given how awful stuff from CIF usually smells. It took a little longer to get to me than was estimated, but that was through no fault of the seller. I'll likely be coming back at some point to get a second system (provided I can convince the wife...)

This isn't the lightest sleeping system, but you won't find a more flexible one. By using different combinations of the two sleeping bags and bivy, this system will adapt to just about any temperature range I'm likely to face. If you're looking for an ultralight down-filled bag that compresses smaller than a soda can, this isn't it. But, if you're looking for a system that you can take anywhere and count on a comfortable night, or one that will last for years, this is a great choice.
