This book is from an outstanding writer on Freemasonry and this work is well researched and well written. The contents are interesting but deal predominately with those men who formed the Royal Society in England. Freemasonry played an important part as the founders were of the craft and they based the society on many Masonic principals. The author details the underlying factors which affected the society and which were a major part of the history of the 1660's. The book is excellent but its focus is on those of the Royal Society so the title is a bit inaccurate. It is a great book for anyone interested in this period and in these people who are are in effect responsible for the beginnings of the modern sciences. Masons will find the ties to the craft interesting
