Anne Perry novels have a surprise ending. I did guess the killer this time which I don't always do. It wasn't her best Christlmas mystery--I have them all--but still good enough. She did spend too much time on internal thoughts and less on conversations that she could have used to heigten suspense.

I love a good mystery and I so enjoy Anne Perry's work and before I start reading any book I want to know if it is in a series or if each book will stand on its own. I had just finished the Monk and Pitt series and happened read that she had a series with Christmas in the title. So I purchased Christmas Secret so that I would have the complete set and as it turned out they refered to the Pitts and some of the people in those books shared what had happened to them before or after their lives with the Pitts. The book it self was a mystery right up to the end I kept trying to out guess the author but as always she had me fooled again right to th end.It is more worth reading but it would be wise as i did and start with the first.
It is what I expect with Anne Perry writings, and that is a good enough reason for me to purchase the whole series, as I am collecting all of her works. They are the kind of writings that one may read again with as much pleasure as the first reading. I appreciate writers who can manage to mystify and captivate readers without resorting to gutter language.
Excellent book! The writing keeps you intereseted and the story lining guessing. Anne is my ne favorite author.
