This is na film that critics didn't rate very highly, but once again they got it wrong! Undercover Blues is the story of a married couple on vacation in New Orleans with their new 8 month old daughter. This may not sound exciting if it weren't for the fact that the couple are super spies Jeff & Jane Blue. They may be on maternity leave, but they manage to find ways to stay in the game. First off, they run afoul of small time but big egoed mugger Muerte who spends the entire movie trying to exact revenge upon the blues, popping up continually throughout, but being easily foiled each time. Secondly, they are approached by their boss to take on a case to apprehend a former communist spy turned arms dealer Paulina Novacek. Thrill ensue as the spies battle back & forth throught the film ending in an action packed battle. As if the Blues don't have enough problems facing them, they are constantly being harassed by overzealous Police Lt. Ted Sawyer & his inept partner Sgt Halsey. Sawyer tries to get a grip on exactly what the Blues are up to in New Orleans adding to the confusion that surrounds them. It all comes together in an action packed entertaining & very amusing romp! Kathleen Turner & Dennis Quaid star as the Blues. One has to wonder if their cheeks hurt when filming was done as both sport wide grins through the entire movie adding to the slapstick feel of this film. Quaid quips one liners constantly while you get plenty of good looks at Turner's amazing legs! Quaid & Turner are hardly the bulk of the star power of this movie. Stanley Tucci is amazing as the vindictive Muerte. Fiona Shaw plays Novacek who is as seductive as she is deadly. Tom Arnold & Park Overall star as Vern & Bonnie Newman a midwestern couple also on vacation who befriend the Blues while having no clue as to what is really going on? Comedian Larry Miller is the buffoonish Sgt Halsey & look for fellow comedian Dave Chappelle in a small early roll as Muerte's sidekick Ozzie. Film buffs will also spot veteran character actors Marshall Bell & Saul Rubinek. This film is just about as entertaining as it gets with lots of action, lots of laughs & even a few heartwarming moments. It also does a great job of showing you a generous portion of the sights & sounds that make New Orleans the jewel of the South. The cast is amazing, the story is solid & the backdrop is breathtaking! What more could you want? Oh yes & there is that "Thumbing your nose at the critics" thing!Read full review
If this is not already a classic comedy, it is destined to become one. It is a great funny story told with clean humor. Yes, it is still possible to make a PG rated movie that'll have you laughing out loud as Kathleen Turner (Jane Blue) and Dennis Quaid (Jeff Blue) play pretty much straight characters with hilarious results against would be mugger and overall bad guy, Muerte, played by Stanley Tucci. Just watching Muerte when he's enraged by Jeff's mispronunciation of his name (Morty), and his falsetto howls bring laughter tears each time I see this film. There's much more to the story than that, but I don't want to give too much away. You can read the other reviews to learn more about the plot, but they lack the feel of the funny silliness this rare film has. This DVD must be popular because it used to be in the bargain bins of many stores but it's almost impossible to find anymore except on ebay and the like.Read full review

A great 90's action/comedy with Kathleen Turner & Dennis Quaid. I truly loved this movie when seeing it originally at the cinema which now is INCREDIBLY RARE TO FIND. Made my day to finally locate the DVD and instantly watched it. Turner and Quaid are so funny with their "matter of fact" quips, a true gem to watch!
