This is her fourth album, and she really shows off her capabilities, it is an excellent album. I really like "Deedles Blues" and "Caught a Touch of Your Love." As for her style, don't think of modern Jazz women like Diana Krall or Patricia Barber, think Aretha Franklin crossed with Ethel Merman, or a female Mel Torme. Okay, maybe that's a bit silly, but if you like the "Big Band" sound, you should love this album and Ms. Schuur. Check out any of her older material from the 80's. On a side note, this CD will give your subwoofer something to do. :-) It's almost too "bass-y," but it's clean, deep bass.
I LOVE this CD. Diane Schuur uses her voice like a trumpet in places, and skats like she was born to do so. The arrangements are so rich and full. Count Basie only had two other singers in his lifetime career who he dubbed a Count Basie singer. I particularly like the lyrics in I Caught a Touch of Your Love. (It came on over night... I must have held you too tight... I caught a touch of your love). This is an excellent sampler of Diane's range of styles on which she delivers in spades. I love you Diane! Teresa
