MLK is one of my historical mentors, and I came away with a much greater appreciation for the man after reading Phillips' book. King was the center of the Civil Rights movement, and his dedication to the movement's principles and goals was unwavering. This book shows how King kept the movement focused on the major issues, and kept the movement's credibility at a very high level. Knowing what he was up against on a local and national level, King used the media, publicity, and eventually public opinion to his advantage at a time when America was bitterly divided on the issue of racial equality. Anyone in a leadership position can benefit immensely from this book, as MLK demonstrated better than anyone how to stay focused on your goals and objectives no matter what the cost.
