Bought this book for my mother years ago as a book collection I was buying her for Christmas. She let me borrow it and I read it. Fell in love with the book, characters and Dean Koontz. Fast paced and quirky. Bought it for myself so I can read again! About The Book: "The dead don't talk. I don't know why." But they do try to communicate, with a short-order cook in a small desert town serving as their reluctant confidant. Meet Odd Thomas. Sometimes the silent souls who seek Odd out want justice. Occasionally their otherworldly tips help him prevent a crime. But this time it's different. A stranger comes to Pico Mundo, accompanied by a horde of hyena-like shades who herald an imminent catastrophe. Aided by his sould mate, Stormy Llewellyn, and an unlikely community of allies that includes the King of Rock 'n' Roll, Odd will race against time to thwart the gathering evil. His account of these shattering hours, in which past and present, fate and destiny converge, is a testament by which to live - an unforgettable fable for our time destined to rank among Dean Koontz's most enduring works.Read full review
Odd Thomas (Dean Koontz) Odd Thomas delivers everything you can ask for in a book. It's a must read in my opinion!!! One of my All-Time Favourites!!! Odd Thomas has it all, a likeable head character, a great supporting cast and a superb storyline. I purchased Odd Thomas after reading the first chapter in Maxim magazine, I had to wait a month for the book to come out, but it was well worth the wait. Odd Thomas will grab hold of you and pull you in. You will not be able to put it down. Final Verdict: Borrow or Buy: A Definate Buy!!! This book is great whether you are a fan of Dean Koontz or not. Be sure to check out Forever Odd and the upcoming Brother Odd (December, 2006). PLEASE VOTE IF YOU FIND THIS REVIEW HELPFUL. Thank you.
How's this for a recommendation? Before reading "Odd Thomas," I had not read a single Dean Koontz novel. After reading "Odd Thomas," I have picked up four more Dean Koontz books ("Life Expectancy," "The Taking," "Dragon Tears," and "Forever Odd," the follow-up to "Odd Thomas"). "Odd Thomas" is a book you can easily not put down. Dean Koontz writes in a style that's easy to read, yet keeps you captivated by the story. As I was nearing the end of the book, I was a bit saddened, not because of the story/plot, but because I did not want the book to end. Yes, it's that good. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading a good thriller with a supernatural twist.
After becoming an enthusiastic follower of Mr. Koontz's "Frankenstein" series, I decided to give his Odd Thomas a try, after hearing many positive reports about it from acquaintances and the Internet, and I'm glad I did. The aptly named "Odd" is a likeable character with a very peculiar talent-he can see and communicate with the dead (well, some of them, anyway) and this power gets him into some exciting scrapes... In this story, the first of the series, 20-year-old Odd has bad vibes after seeing a strange man in the diner where he is a short-order cook-not because of anything very unusual about the fellow, but because he is surrounded by what Odd calls "bodachs", shadowy creatures which only he can see, and which only appear as a prelude to some tragedy. He is drawn to investigating the man, and uncovers a plot of immense evil that threatens many lives-unless the heroic Odd can stop it... I loved the triphammer pace of the action and suspense of this novel, although the ending is not what I would have liked. I want to read the entire series and follow this strange young man into new adventures, in the books "Forever Odd", "Odd Hours", "Brother Odd", "In Odd We Trust", and "Odd is on Our Side". Great reading courtesy of Dean Koontz!Read full review
I love to read books by Dean Koontz, and this one was no exception. Odd Thomas is a page turner, not the usual scary stuff but excellent in suspense. Odd Thomas is a lovable young man who can see and understand the dead to solve what were mystery that maybe at hand. He is sensitive to the needs of the dead and the living. In some aspects as you read this book you wonder why there couldn't be people like him in real life, and you begin to feel that you know him. Things in your everyday world can keep us wondering why something is happening, why there is no explanation. What does it take to solve a mystery? What is that bumping sound caused by? What was that blurred vision you saw off to the side. Put yourself in Odd Thomas shoes for these are the things that follows him everyday of his life.Read full review
