Star Wars Galaxies, was a smashing hit upon release but has since changed its format. At release the general conscience was that it is fun for PvP, Crafters, Soloist, and group oriented players alike. Today the Star Wars Galaxies players once loved is no more. Today you're either going to love it or hate it. Many of the core game dynamics that made it intriguing to users are gone. Once you could make a hybrid character mixing professions to make an all-your-own type of character, today you pick 1 of 9 character types and pretty much follow that throughout. The mystery and challenge of unlocking the Jedi is now gone, today you can simply opt to be a Jedi and go. While this has turned off a lot of the current players as well as former players, whom may have thought of coming back, it has also made things simpler and somewhat more balanced. The graphics and some of the dynamics the game introduced really are exceptional. Many of the new games coming out seem to have borrowed some of the things this game broke ground on. Speculation is the game has been simplified for possible release on X-Box, and PlayStation 2; much like other games such as Final Fantasy XI online. I realize this is a review for the game Star Wars Galaxies and Empire Divided, which is no longer being made. However, to be current I felt it best to reflect on what was, and what is. Today if you want to play Star Wars Galaxies, you’ll need to buy the Star Wars Galaxies Starter Kit which marks the dawn of the game change. All in all, the game can be fun, its cheap enough to try and not like at only $19.99 Retail, if you do end up enjoying it that makes a heck of a bargain. Happy Gaming!Read full review
Keep in mind Sony Online Entertainment no longer supports this game with official servers. Played on SWGEmu's "official" unofficial server "Basilisk" with original disc set, you can relive those days before the New Game Experience ruined the fun of the game. For those for you who remember the pure joy of traversing the Star Wars Universe and being able to live your own tale, this is the game for you.

Game arrived in great condition. No scratches. Haven’t played since 2011. I’m having a BLAST!! I recommend the private server, “SWG Legacy” because it is more of a complete server than “SWGEmu.” Also, playing this game on the SWGEmu your character will get reset. That doesn’t happen with SWG Legacy. The game is updated regularly and new heroics are being made on Legacy. I recommend reading about the “SWG Legacy” and “SWGEmu” private servers before buying the game.

I bought this because you need the original discs to play the game PRE patched. Sony released a patch that pretty much broke the entire game and forced half of the player population to leave, but with the originals you can play on a private server before the game was bonked. Aside from being awesome because it's Star Wars, it also pretty entertaining. Lots of fighting PVE and PVP as well as quest lines. Character customization is also a plus.
Star Wars Galaxies holds a special place in my heart as my first MMO game. While I may be a WoW junkie now, this game still holds a strong interest with me via the emulation community that has revived most of the game through reverse engineering of the original source code. If you decide to seek out the emulation, you will need a set of these discs to access it. While the emulation isn't a complete recreation of the game just yet, it's constantly updating and being worked on to bring back the experience of Galaxies before Sony essentially ruined the game with interface and combat updates very few players liked. The character creation is robust with customization, some of the lesser-known alien races are well done and have unique traits that mesh well with the various classes. Be a Bothan smuggler or a Sullustian medic! The player housing system is still the best I have encountered, have a house of various sizes and customize it how you like. They can even be player-run shops! The combat takes some getting used to, it's defintely not the best by modern standards, but there's a certain appeal in training for the different weapons each class can use. If you're tired of current MMOs that copy WoW's interface and combat system, give SWG a try. If the game is not quite your cup of tea, at least you picked up a cool Star Wars collectible.Read full review
