This is a great war flick, especially since it features Steve McQueen. Basically it's a love triangle story set during WWII but concerns a B-17 pilot and his crew. The movie is gritty and filled with tension between McQueen and his copilot Robert Wagner. The acting and story line are good but unfortunately the movie was shot in black and white. There are a lot of shots in and around B-17s and the movie shows many Army Air Corp procedures in handling these big bombers that are all too rare now. The one scene where McQueen decides to buzz the field and tower is really impressive; a B-17 moving at 180+ mph at less than 20 feet altitude pass after pass! Wow!! That stunt pilot earned his pay that day, one small 15 degree bank and he'd have dragged his wingtip all across that field! A+ movie definitely worth the ticket of admission, especially if you appreciate old vintage aircraft.Read full review
