Tim Burton draws attention to any of his work - people tend to love him or hate him... but with the Nightmare Before Christmas, Tim Burton has created a visually stunning masterpiece. The Nightmare before Christmas is a stop-motion animated movie following Pumpkin King Jack Skellington (Love the name!!) who chases what he thinks will be the finer life in Santa Claus's land. But Jack Skellington struggles to leave his world - Halloween! The beauty of The Nightmare Before Christmas is that its beautifuly created and assembled. In fact, it was nominated for an Academy Award. This is the predecessor to Tim Burton's 2005 release the Corpse Bride. The Nightmare Before Christmas is enoyable with each new glance as you will find new and special scenes and moments.
Awesome pictures and concept art. Detailed descriptions of making the movie. A must have!

I've never owned an art book before, and I'm an enormous fan of 'the making of ...' books and documentaries/films. Also, I'm an even bigger fan of the Nightmare Before Christmas - I watched the film during last Christmas and I was completely in awe - it was so distinctly unique and well though out; it was refreshing and bold, funny, spooky and happy at the same time. Moreover the fact that it used Stopmotion animation further amazed me, so I had to find out how the film was made. The book is fantastic - it is split up into 3 sections ' 'The film': which basically goes through the lyrics and discusses a bit about how the lyrics were composed and why. 'The Art', which discusses why each character was made, what went through Burton's and the designer's minds when they created these characters, and their inspirations etc. 'The Vision' is probably my favourite part because it shows us how they actually composed the film which is what fascinated me the most - how they physically animated every second of the film, and how they made it work. It's incredibly interesting to see how they used hundreds of heads for Jack, separate blinking eyelashes for Sally, etc. Ultimately what shocked me the most was that it would take them a week to film just one second of footage! That's stopmotion for you, and facts like that are what drew me the most to this fantastic book. High recommended not just for Nightmare lovers, but also for general art and 'making of ...' fanatics!Read full review
