What's not to love about another superb installment in a series that gets better with every book? Throw in an eBay reference in the third chapter that lets me review it here, and the result is total literary bliss. "Tucker Peak" is the twelfth book in what the Chicago Tribune calls "consistently the best police-procedual series being written in America." In America? How about anywhere? Archer Mayor's extraordinary Joe Gunther novels transcend genre. Insightful, meticulously constructed, and imbued with a rock-solid sense of place (in this case, Vermont), they resonate long after the last page is turned. I've read each volume twice (so far) before going on to the next, because I just don't want the story to end. Every new installment builds on the book before it — which gives the series as a whole an enthralling arc of character and ongoing storyline — yet each book also stands tall on its own merits as a top-notch tale of detection with a white-knuckle finish. As for recommending "Tucker Peak" to a friend, I've already got two friends and my husband reading along behind me in the series. Now I'm telling you: Get yourself some Archer Mayor books, and settle in for a thoroughly satisfying ride. p.s. Re: the eBay reference…let's just say that there's a reason eBay has earned a reputation in law-enforcement circles as "America's fence". Thank you for reading my review.
