I held off getting "Daredevil" because I heard it was really terrible and I'm also not the biggest Ben Affleck fan either. However, I am a big comic book fan and had hoped that this would someday be a special edition or a director's cut and guess what? IT DID! Well, though I wasn't overwhelmingly surprised, I certainly wasn't disappointed. Overall it was a good story, meaning I didn't get bored. One fight scene I thought was really corny, but the majority of the action scenes were Ok. I didn't think the costume department got it right on DD's outfit, but consider who wore it. Not enough musculature to show through spandex, lol. Ben Affleck as Matt Murdock in my opinion was right on. It's as though he came right off the pages and became a real person. All in all if you want to get DareDevil, get the director's cut and stay away from the theatrical offering. The DC version is money better spent.Read full review
You have to love Daredevil. Even if you don't this movie is better than the theatrical release. Closer to the real thing, if that can be said about a comic book superhero. The version released in theatres has the advantage of the sex-scene between Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, whereas the director's cut has a legal subplot involving Coolio and more jon Favreau. It's a shame the released version got such bad word of mouth, these movies are actually pretty good... But you gotta live Daredevil!
While many would agree that the first effort of this film was one of the worst comic book adaptations ever, this new cut is a marked improvement over the original. Where the theatrical cut was rushed and carried a sense of standard Hollywood fare from the studio, this version is notably infused with the darker elements of what made the Daredevil comic series famous under Frank Miller. For those who would like to see a true adaptation of the Daredevil franchise in film at the moment, this is the DVD to pick up.
The Daredevil Director's Cut version of the movie gets a bit edgier and a lot more story driven than the theater release. I like the fact you get to know the characters a bit more and the story dives in more into the corruption of Hell's Kitchen. In all I think this version is an improvement on the original. Makes up for some of the blandness of the other one an I think it's a better fit for us DD fans!
I was disappointed in the theatrical release of Daredevil and had heard the director's cut was better. I'm glad I checked it out, this is a big improvement although it's flaws still make it fall short of the best that Marvel has put out. One hopes the NF series will learn from this film. Using Kingpin, Elektra and Bullseye in the same film is kind of shooting the works in one film.
