While I enjoy many, many Sherlock Holmes novels that have been written by authors other than Conan Doyle, this sadly cannot be put on that list. The writers had no basic understanding of who Holmes is. Many of the things in the story directly contradicts the canon that Doyle created, for instance, He is in a relationship with Mrs. Hudson, who by the way is in her mid thirties, blonde and hot! He also immediately identifies the planet Mars by the fact that it has two moons, when according to Doyle's books, Sherlock did not even know that the Earth revolved around the sun! Them must have realized a third of the way in writing the book of these glaring issues as they try to play it off as "Sherlock likes to tease Watson by pretending he's dumb in certain areas." Really? If you're going to write Holmes, then have respect for the man who created him! In addition, Professor Challenger was a nice addition to the story, but I QUICKLY grew weary of his solo chapters. He spent half of his time bringing his wife to a get away ship, and then the other half getting back to his house in London. In addition to that, in the course of three chapters, we see him eating over 40 meals! Seriously, this is no hyperbole! He literally spent paragraph after paragraph describing his foraging for food, then eating it! I think that at least 8% of the book describes him eating. Finally nothing they did had any impact on the War against man and martian! Seriously, they were just.....there...... Nothing they did impacted the war at all. Oh, yea, one more finally..... The martians were not martians! We don't know what they were, we do know that after they failed at earth, they couldn't conquer Venus either. (Smart enough to create interstellar travel, just not to check the local weather before they head out) This is not likely to be a book I read over again.Read full review

Very well done crossover novel. Sherlock Holmes an Professor Challenger from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle set into H.G. Wells England under the Martians. The characters are quite consistent with their originals, and extended with good logical projections.
