I've read all of Casey Daniel's "Pepper" series, and this was excellent, as were all the others. The premise for the series is that Pepper, a down-on-her-luck ex-society girl, now works in a cemetary as a guide, and hit her head when she fell into a tombstone...and now sees and hears the dead who need help before they can move into the light. The books can be read out of order because all spotlight a different ghost. Her books are a blend of funny, sassy, whodunit, and twists throughout. This one had twists I never saw coming! Pepper is helping a dead lab scientist, who coincidentally was the wife of Dan (the brain doc, and who knows what else) - Dan is in all the books, and we keep waiting to see if Pepper will end up in bed with him or tell him to go to hell. The ghost is a snotty, bitchy, know-it-all, who is evil to the core...but Pepper doesn't know the evil part, or how far the ghost will go to get what she wants! Pepper thinks she is helping the ghost by investigating a famous mental illness shrink who treats the homeless for free. What she finds out is that the shrink isn't the savior people think he is; he is killing the homeless for reasons I won't tell you and ruin the plot...and before Pepper can nail him, she ends up a ghost herself (didn't see that one coming, did ya'?). Can she get back to being corporeal? You'll have to read it - it's well worth it!!! Big thumbs up for Casey Daniels - she needs to write faster so I can get my hands on her next book!Read full review
I love the Pepper novels! This one has a nice twist and different then the first 3 books. She is so spunky!
