One reviewer wrongly complained about it not shutting-off when they laid it down and it being a fire-hazard. Perhaps that buyer should learn what the handy little "lock switch" is for -- for repairmen and crafters that need to keep a pencil-torch lit while using it without having to keep the button depressed. Complaints like theirs would cause them to not sell these handy torches for everyone else who is more intelligent than a butane lighter. Yet another reviewer doesn't realize that using a low-quality or even a bad batch of poorly refined butane will eventually clog-up the tiny micro-pore filter in ANY jet-style (or "windproof") butane lighter (even $50 executive-gift ones). This can sometimes be fixed by back-flushing the system with high-quality butane or dismantling to clean (neither for the beginner). But at this price? Buy another, you whining penny-pinchers! :-) Cheaper than a whole can of butane! (How did I learn about cleaning that internal filter? Trying to save my favorite $50 executive-lighter from a can of bad butane -- it behaving after about 6-months just like that reviewer described.) Thin pin-point flame adjustable from ~3/4-inch to ~2-inches. Decent fuel capacity but compact. Has a handy "LOCK-ON" switch for crafters and repairmen (though has a warming to not run it more than 1.5 minutes at a time, enough for most repair/craft needs). The body looks remarkably like metal (the jet part IS metal), but is in fact a metallic-fleck clear plastic -- meaning, when held up to a back-light you can see how much butane is still inside, I love being able to know that! These work great! Has lit every time so far. I should have bought more. :-)Read full review

Great little torch lighters I've had for 8 months now and still work like new. Would be easy 5 stars except they can be tricky to fill until you figure out which tip to use. Until then butane all over the place and even freezes your fingers. Brief instructions would be very helpful.

This torch lighter tends to lock on and it started two fires. It is so quiet you don't know it is still lit. I laid it down twice and started two fires. I was unaware of the fires until I could smell items burning. I threw this item out.

I've had 4 of these and they're reliable, but for some reason they suddenly stop working after around 6 months of daily use. They can remain lit for a few seconds after releasing the button - yes, even with the lock off - which could ignite something when you put it down. Some units do this more than others. It's annoying to wait for it to go out before putting it down.
