Considered to be Barry White's breakout endeavor, this album, released in 1974, was a tremendous commercial success and garnered much critical acclaim. It produced two huge, though quickly overplayed hits, "Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe," and "You're The First, The Last, My Everything." I guess, then, it wouldn't seem odd that I purchased this CD for the sake of neither of those. The real stand-out here, in my opinion, is the basically obscure but magnificent "I Can't Believe You Love Me." This is where I think the genius of Barry White is most apparent. It's slow, simmering tempo and orchestral extravagance plys tenderly and expertly under the strength and conviction of Mr. White's ever-present love rap until it all builds and swells and then culminates into an experience that leaves the listener feeling all the raw emotion and profundity that the man is trying to convey...all done in a generous 10:17 for maximum enjoyment. WELL worth the cost of the cd amd more on its own merit. There are other good things about this album, like the cuts Mellow Mood, Parts I and II, beautiful instrumental pieces that are all too brief with a combined running time of a mere 2:74. All in all a very good bet for your listening pleasure from the man with the Big Voice...A class act and major talent that will be missed.Read full review
