Vegeta got more than he bargained for when he let Cell become perfect, as he NOW became the lower-tier fighter between them. Getting fierce blows from Cell had the Super Saiyan reeling, as Trunks and Krillin got to watch from the sidelines. In a supreme bravado effort, Vegeta challenges Cell to take his ultimate attack head on, which Cell agrees. Then, in one of the most compelling scenes of the Dragonball Z series, we get Vegeta to charge his Final Flash attack, which if having a truer aiming, would have obliterated Cell completely, but destroyed the planet in the process. Yet, he blew off Cell's right torso, bewildering everyone, only to see Cell smirk and grow back his missing limbs. Vegeta, almost exhausted by the tremendous energy build for his attack, fell easy prey on Cell's powerful attacks. Trunks enters next to challenge the battle hungry bio android. Trunks posseses powers beyond Vegeta's (or so he thought), and for a while stands on even ground with Cell, to a point that he surpasses Cell in raw strength, as the fought and narrated each's future timeline. By now, in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, Gohan a full-fledged Super Saiyan continues to train under the watchful eye of Goku.
