Excellent book for those with a passion or general interest of the Western Front during The Great War.The text and pictures cover all aspects of the Front by those in the trenches. The front cover alone is a fine example of what awaits the reader. This photo c.1917-18 of German soldiers demonstrates uniforms and equipment of the period.Notice the soldier to far left of picture - just below his Flare pistol is a belt plate much larger than the standard belt plate worn by the individual to his right. This plate is longer and has two hooks on each end for running communication wire in the field. Daily life,Villages,Trenches,Snipers, and Pow's, are just a few catagories studied through many remarkable photographes.A first hand view of the most horrible combat and conditions in history.Goes hand in hand as a visual reference to such books as, The German Army on the Somme 1914-1918, The Storm of Steel, and In The Line.Read full review
Well written book with large format pictures. Many of the photos, however, were previously published in "War Against War," a very well-known and much printed 1920s pacifist book. Buy it for the uniform and equipment details, not for more than one evening's read.
