This is a great book for those who like pictorical history. The black and white photos of the American Civil War are not your typical Matthew Brady work. These are from the 'other' photographers who covered the battlefields, garrisons, and camps. There are also portraits of political and social personalities from that time period. The only dislike I had was the lack of information on the background of the photo. There should have been some information on the events leading up to the image that was made, and the people involved. Overall, a very good book. Well worth the cost.
