Whenever I'm in the mood for a laugh out loud suspense novel, I pick this one up again. Blair Mallory is an ex-cheerleader who defines the meaning of "High Maintenance". She is owner of a local gym, and when someone is killed who bares a striking resemblance to Blair, she tries to go into hiding. However, Lt. Wyatt Bloodsworth is on the scene and having Blair in the line of fire isn't something that sits well with him. Because although they only dated a few times, two years ago, the sparks they set off were powerful. Now Blair is being hunted, not only by a killer, but by Wyatt. While the suspense part of the book isn't the greatest, the humor drags you in. Blair is one of a kind and Wyatt won't know what hit him. Happy Reading.
Blair Mallory is a gorgeous Blonde ex CHEERLEADER..who would want to kill her? draw a number ( LOL) and someone just tried to KILL Her WHY? but instead they shoot the WRONG blonde....how can Blair Day get any WORSE? IT CAN ..the detective who DUMPED Blair on their third date gets TO SOLVE The CRIME. How Can Blair "punish" the cop for dumping her? she pretends to not remember him~(BEYOND FUNNY) when he says...."stay in town or else" ...she hits the BEACH for a week the fun part being the HUNK Wyatt tracks Blair down and decides he is the NEW man in her life. This was a very fun read. It was witty, suspenseful, romantic, and I enjoyed the personal modern-day form of a romantic fairy-tail experience narration. You didn't have to wait until chapter 15 before the story became interesting. The relationship is formed from the very beginning of the book, and you will greatly appreciate the pace. You get the suspense, the relationship dynamic, the humor, and the personality flaws and strengths. It is great that the female character is not always right in her decisions and behaviors, and she gets called on it. It is also great that the characters are forced to admit to the different levels of their good and bad feelings towards the one another, and yet they are still feeling vast amounts of love and affection. Enjoy!!!
As a mystery/suspense novel, this one is not one of the best. The plot limps along in places, the romance is dull and the action is dry in spots. On the flip side, there are some humorous moments that are rather unexpected in a novel of this kind. The premise of the novel...a type of stolen identity...is relevant to this day and time in which we live but, for me, there is not enough meat in the story to make this one that I would highly recommend. It is not, in my opinion, one of Linda Howard's best offerings. Were I seeking to buy this book, had I never read Howard before and this was my first, I probably would not read her work again. It was like this last American Idol season...just a'ight.
This is a great book! A little different from Howard's other books with the writing being firs person, but that let me become totally involved with the main charachter Blair. This book has plenty of humor and you MUST read 'Drop Dead Gorgeous' next. It is a follow up to Blair and Wyatt's story. So wonderful that I reread it when I run out of fresh material.
