Since Hollywood has run out of good ideas we must suffer remakes of all sorts. This one may be better than its original but that's not saying much at all. The boy who plays Damien is creepy and there are a few shocking deaths throughout the story. But the pace is much too slow to keep anyone who saw the same theatrical trailer advertising a fast pace thriller interested for the whole movie. There is an all-star cast and the story has some fun twists and turns but the acting feels forced except for action sequences. Check this out if you are a fan of the original or just have to see every horror movie ever created. Anyone else can pass this one up and rest easy by doing it. 3/5
not a bad re-make but boy is it ever a re-make....everything with the exception of the first 15 minutes is the same as the original. the cast does a good job. Damien - the son of Satan - is not as creepy as the original. Mia Farrow does a pretty good job as the Nanny who protects Damien. for those of you who don't know anything about the story: a baby is given to a couple when the mother loses her child during birth - the mother does not know that another child was given to her as it would cause to much heartbreak. the child ends up being the devil and is back to take over the world. watch the original, its a classic. If you have seen the original, this one is worth a look but I wouldn't add to my collection.
Spooky like the orginal but frankly not quite as good. Perhaps more twists or deviations could have been added or deleted to make this remake even better. Julia Styles is simply average. Liev Schreiber steals the show along with Satan's spawn( a very evil child actor). This movie has the typical end of the world, good vs. evil context. It does remain creepy, dark and scary. Christians of all dominations, will feel goosebumps as the devil returns to Earth to steal our souls. Mia Farrow fulfills her duty as the watcher of the Satan's son. She plays his nanny with murderous intent and a cheerful Mary Poppins like edge. Perhaps her performance is a little tongue in cheek, since she played Satan's mother in RoseMary's Baby. Mia seems to temp fate with her connection to Charles Manson, Roman Polanski(Director of RoseMary's Baby) and the death of Sharon Tate(All of which have chilling implications.) Roman who( was married to Sharon Tate at the time of her death and she was also pregnant with his child when she was murdered) survived a concentration camp in World War Two, seems to temp fate too, with his chilling movies and their subject matter. Charlie and his family killed Sharon and her friends, good vs.evil again and on that fateful night when they died, fate stepped in since other people (famous and not so famous) were supposed to have been at Sharon's house. Mia comes full circle as she plays evil instead of good. Ironically, the babies are switched in the movie and the good baby is murdered so Damien, the devil's son can live. In real life, the evil sub-culture kills, the child of good (Sharon and her baby) and the sub-culture is allowed to live out long lives in prison. Perhaps the connection is just another creepy facet of our crazy pop culture world, We can only pray to our God and hope good will always conquer evil in whatever form it takes.Read full review
This remake of the original is really not too bad. If you are familiar with the orignal, that might make a difference because you know what to expect and the really surpising scenes are not as shocking. This movie might be great for someone who has not seen the original. The actors did very well and finely cast. It had its slow moments, or moments when you were trying to figure out who was who and what plot twists they were throwing in, but there none. It was pretty simple. The movie is remeniscent of the Final Destination series of movies because you were looking at the mysterious ways that people were getting knocked off. My only gripe was the ending. You see the horrible consequence that Damien's family ended up taking the long dirt nap and the scene ends with Damien holding hands with the Prez....then he turns around and smiles into the camera. C'mon, thats just stupid. It definitely does not end on a scary note. Oh well, overall it's not too bad and was mildly entertaining. I've spent much more on much worse. Enjoy!Read full review
Hmmmm! I am a HUGE Fan of Horror movies as well as disasters and can't wait for the new releases to come out. I will admit this one didn't have much of a draw from the start for me but I went ahead and rented it. I mean the Original really played out the whole theme of Evil Possessed Kids with like 5 or 6 sequels and it was hard for me to believe they would go back and remake the first one. As I was watching it I couldn't help but feel like I would have enjoyed watching the original over again than watching this tired remake. This movie would have been better throwing out the remake idea and making a completely new "The Omen 10". Thanks for reading my Opinion!!
