I like the souvenir compacts! Nice lot of two celluloid covered souvenir compacts. The one on the left measures 2\" square and is silverplate, not sterling. The front has a black enamel border with a scene of Niagara Falls under celluloid. It also says Souvenir of Canada. The back is silverplate, normal surface wear to the front and back. The inside has a mirror on one side in good condition. The opposite side was for loose powder, no puff. No company identification. It\'s deep enough to use for pills today. From the 1930-40s.The one on the right would have been purchased in the 1930-40s by a traveler who stopped at a rest stop while driving on the long Pennsylvania turnpike road. I travel on this turnpike every year, not fond of driving through the mountains and tunnels, but during the fall season, the leaves changing colors throughout the mountains are just beautiful! The highway runs east–west through the state for about 360 miles. During the 1930s the Pennsylvania Turnpike was designed to improve transportation across the mountains of Pennsylvania. The compact measures 2\" square and is silverplate, not sterling. The front has a detailed scene of one of the tunnels on the turnpike. The scene is covered with celluloid. It says \"The Pennsylvania Turnpike\" on the front. The back is silverplate, very shiny, shows normal surface wear. The inside has a mirror on one side and a powder sifter on the other with the unused peach colored puff. It snaps securely closed.
