(Click to Enlarge)  Description Long letter...kind of tough to read but it can be read with a bit of patience. Written by a Pvt Philip to his parents in Altay. He talks in the 1st three pages about a large package that was sent to him by the relatives in NY. Mice and rats had gotten into the package. He lists the things that were ruined...shirts with holes eaten in them, Cakes, cookies, fruit spoiled because of the mice. He then said that the Colonel was back in NY recruiting solders for the unit. He goes on about some prisoners who were recently released but several were not released due to more serious crimes. No mention of battles but mention of pulling guard duty, etc. 8 pages....Mailed from New Orleans on dec 18, 1863.    Payment and Shipping Buyer to pay shipping and handling of $0.75.
