Hi again ............the story below is true and the family can still be contacted .... 3 people want me to send this Flag to other people to have them authenticate it ..... frankly , i do not want to send it anywhere without my money first ....... i am reducing the price of my Flag and if anyone wants it fine ..... if not , i will just hang it up on my own wall ........ i am just about fed up with this sale ............ sorry , but i thought it was a real winner ......and it might be the best bargain on tonight

i am selling this Flag as-is and with the same family history i received ........ it is not returnable and you can date it to the civil war or not ....... i feel it is the real deal , but others think it is a reunion Flag ...... ( i have no idea what a northern soldier would be doing at a confederate reunion )

.ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION

i have a lot to tell about this Flag ...... ........ it was only made for 1 month before the fall of richmond virginia ..........

my brother and i were fortunate enough to be able to buy it at a farm & estate sale ....... from the family whose direct relative brought it back with him from the war .......

his name was ......Alphred Thornburgh ..... he went into the army weighing 150 pounds and returned from the confederate prison in andersonville to his home north of hartford city weighing in at 80 pounds ..... he was regiment bugler for the 18th indiana infantry - 9th indiana cavalry ...... served from august 61 to august 62 with the 18th .......december 63 to august 65 with the 9th ..... and released from andersonville ....... i have a signed letter by .... mr Loren Thurmans great grandfather brought this back from the war as a souvenir .... it has only been in his family ...... same family homestead farm ....... it is still family owned ...... mr Thurman is in the warren nursing home these days .......

he actually signed 2 papers for me .... one that came with the Flag ..... he was at the sale and he had framed it some years ago ...... then he sent me another which did not have the record that i really wanted ...... but i am sure he can be researched ......i tried to find his discharge papers and such , but the family did not know what i was talking about .......

this Flag is called the .... third confederate national Flag ...... the second national Flag was like this but without the big red stripe ...... the Flag looked like a surrender Flag , so they quickly adopted this one that incorporates the red band on the end ........

there is a lot of google info out there on this design Flag ...... everyone says it is quite rare ....... it is all printed on a cheap white cloth ..... ( by this time they could not get ammunition or food ) ........ but it appears to me to have never been used ........

the Flag itself measures about 35 inches long ...... 19 inches wide ...... ..... there are a few stains here and there .... light spots , but i doubt if you will ever find one in better condition .....

PLEASE read the interesting history of this Flag on the internet ..... you will be glad you did

the frame is old barn-board and it measures ...... 46 1/2inches .... by... 30 inches ..... thick glass too and certainly not professionally mounted .........

SHIPPING OPTIONS ..... #1 come and get it like it is ...... thats the safest way for you to receive it .......... no hurray and we are close to all big mid west cities ..... indy , chicago , dayton , st louis , detroit , columbus ...... kinda in the middle of it all

option #2 is for me to send it in the frame ...... it is heavy and over-sized ...... and costly to ship .... but i am glad to ship it and probably have it professionally boxed .... ( also not cheap )

last #3 option is for me to carefully remove the cloth and roll it in white cotton on a tube ...... then a plastic bag .... and another tube ...... it would be much cheaper ..... but you can decide .......

picking it up or sending a car for it is my first choice ....... lol

naturally what papers and signatures i have will be sent also ....... i hope someone likes my Flag ........ i paid a lot to own it , however briefly ...... lol

i was going to remove the Flag at first for the pictures .... then i thought , it is safer in glass .........the only one i saw one offered to the public for much more money ...... lol

as far as shipping goes , that is just what we will charge you to ship the item ..... no hidden extras , no packing or materials fee ......... usually the post office and sometimes ups ......and sometimes the shipping calculator is way off the mark ............., it simply depends on where you live ...... items going overseas naturally cost more to ship than those that stay in the states ..... a toy or a tool .... something for the bathroom , or a children\'s book , whatever ..... we are always willing to send it slower and save you money ...... always glad to combine purchases as well ......

as we have said ,this Flag is selling tonight as-is and without a refund policy ......

shipping is the cost to your home only .......... we will also no longer charge for insurance ...... but all items will STILL BE insured by us , as we will pay for it on our end ....... have no fear ..... and again , all packing materials , wrapping tissue , paper , bubble wrap and boxes are free ....... we re-cycle almost everything anyway and my brother Jon gets about 98% or 99% of his packages delivered to the customer in perfect condition ......... \" having said that , UPS once broke our cast iron kitchen skillet \" ....... so you never know ..... heh heh
