I buy vintage linens at local estate sales and recently found some great items, including some sweet children\'s items.What an amazing find: two girls\' bathing suits from the 1950s, just as fresh as if put away last autumn! These are both marked Catalina, a California Creator. I have included closeup photos of both labels; they help date these to the mid 1950s, according to the website. These are both made of a heavy cotton knit fabric with some stretch to it, and they both come in blue and white. The larger suit has a blue background with white squares; at the top there is a square neck of white knit fabric with a blue band in the center. The neckline trim continues to the back, forming straps to cross and fasten to the back. The smaller suit is identical in construction, with a white fabric with blue spots and and a blue strap at the top with white trim. Both have their original buttons at the back, but the buttons on the larger suit have turned a bit yellow. The label information says \"Catalina, Toddler 3, a California Creator, weight 25/30, Los Angeles, CA\" and \"Catalina, Toddler 4, a California Creator, weight 30/35, Los Angeles, CA.\"measurements, all taken with the garments lying flat:
3: 6.5\" across front from shoulder strap to shoulder strap; 9\" across front at underarms; 10.5\" across front at hip; ~15\" length from top to crotch
4: 6.5\" across front from shoulder strap to shoulder strap; 9\" across front at underarms; 10.5\" across front at hip; 16\" length from top to crotchI have laundered these, and found the fabric to be in very sound condition - not brittle but flexible. They are definitely heavier than the bathing suits of today and brought back lots of memories about having to wait for bathing suits to dry! These are in amazing condition, with no problems at all - they could be worn today. They are just an amazing time capsule. I would prefer to sell them as a pair.
