this very unusual center piece bowl was made in england from 1886 to 1891 ........ made by doulton / burslem and fully marked on the bottom ....... the mark corresponds with the date i have just given .....
i just got this at a recent estate sale near richmond ....... it is perfect and the feet it sits on almost look like runners on a fancy sleigh ...... there is a large shield / crest in the front of the bowl .... scalloped and gilded all around the rim
beautiful and rare purple / lavender colored roses inside the bowl as well as on the front shield .......
Measurements: Height - 2 inches (5 cm): Depth - 5 1/2 inches (14 cm): Length - 9 1/2 inches (23.5 cm): Weight - 23 oz (650 gm).
there is no crazing or discoloration ..... i doubt this was ever much used for anything but to display ....... maybe a fruit or bread basket or even a few simple flowers .......
i found a couple of these on a google search and it seems these are worth some fair amount of money in the UK ....... i am certainly willing to send mine to europe ....... or anywhere else that appreciates this fun piece of british art pottery ........
