This rare original document is an Ordnance receipt to Captain DD Van Valzah of the 25th Infantry (a buffalo soldier infantry regiment) for entrenching tools and scabbards (worn!), (incorrectly spelled intrenching tools) authorized by Capt FH Phipps Ord Dept. (San Antonio Arsenal).Please continue to watch my sales.A few years ago I purchased a large box of Indian Wars period papers all of which belonged to Colonel DD Van Valzah who served with and later commanded the 25th Infantry. The documents date from the late 1860\'s to about 1900. Near every document relates to black troops and Western forts. Sadly many of these rare documents are in poor condition.
