This is a seriously classy ring, simple and elegant in style, with typical art deco design features, and superb quality gems. The master jeweller who made the piece has signed it, usually an indication of a level of pride in the finished work. The hallmark is 925 for sterling silver.

The combination of glossy black onyx, the white of old silver, and the brilliance of beautiful quality marcasite stones is superb.

Art deco designs will often provide the slightly unusual such as setting the stone across the finger, andsevere, almost stark lines. Similarly, the design incorporates different levels into the piece, this one steps down from the stone, to the high, squared shoulders, and again to the row of marcasites, set deep into the silver above and below the stone. The stone was in poor condition when I got the ring, because it is set up high, it had obviously borne the brunt of wear. I have had it professionally repolished, always a risk with old pieces, but it was the right decision, it looks great.

The ring is heavy for the era, with thick white glossy silver shoulders, culminating in a beaded square set with two quite large marcasites. Similarly, there is a thick band of curved silver wrapped around the finger curving up to a beaded strip running along the stone, and set with eight more marcasites above the stone, eight more below. The back of the band has numerous wear marks and two scratches on the edge of the band where it has rubbed against something, this is not a ring that has languished in a jewellery box, it is well loved, and has been worn. The fact that the piece was solidly made has insured that it has stood the test of time, there is little or no loss of silver, so any wear marks could be polished out if required.

This is a special piece, with a level of quality and beauty not seen every day. The size is 8 (US) or P (English sizing) It will be sent in a nice quality ring box, so would make a gorgeous gift.

The ringbox pictured is not incuded in the sale but your purchase will be securely packed for transit. As I use recycled packaging, I charge only Australia Post charges for postage.
