Antique Vintage Chien Toy drum with fabulous graphics. Diameter 11 inches of end pieces. Total height about 5 inches.
Essential pieces are here but needs drum \"head\" surface replacement and new cord to hold ends together on either side of graphic ring.
The current \"head\" material - paper with a linen backing - is badly damaged on one side and somewhat damaged on the other.
The holes in the rim pieces (with drum surface) would be as they are in the last photo and heavy string (thick woven soft twine) would wind in and out over the sides to tieboth sides together. There is a remnant of that presumably original soft cord included - see photos.This construction puts this piece in a very early date. 1930\'s or earlier.
Last photo has example of another Chein drum with replaced head surfaces - said replaced with cardboard. this gives you idea of how this should be tied together.
I no longer collect toys and am selling off some of my pieces as I have no room to display them and not much energy for repair.
This piece with a little ingenuity could be a fabulous display piecewith other antique toys. If I were to tackle this I would keep existing materials and face the badly pierced side with a new piece of paper or fabric.
