This is a vintage 1970s Lefton ceramic bisque Chick Duck Easter Egg Candle Holder or possibly a Pencil Holder / figurine Japan import.

The base is unmarked, but a very helpful Lefton expert identified this as #01355 3” Chick & Duck – Three variations were made of this design. She found the information in a 1981 Lefton catalog. This is an earlier piece, because although it no longer has the Lefton seal on the base, it does have pencil markings giving the name of the giver and the date 1978.

Size of the entire piece is approx 3 inches high and approx 2 ½ inches wide. Diameter of the hole in the top of the egg is ½ inch.

The opening at the top of the egg would fit a thin taper candle, or you could have a charming holiday pencil holder or small vase, or possibly a very tiny planter.

Condition: Very good. No chipping. No cracks. Color is bright. Piece is in lovely condition.
