This is a squash blossom necklace by legendary artisan Kee Joe Benally.Kee Joe Benally is a top prize-winning TRIBAL contemporary jeweler. He uses the finest natural turquoise and materials. He displays a mastery of traditional hand wrought work in contemporary designs. His styles range from those influenced by Kenneth Begay to traditional revival, and from TRIBAL mosaic and channel inlay styles to Hopi overlay. (from American Indian Jewelry I, by Gregory Schaaf)This necklace is exceptional in every way. The handmade oversized bench beads are 9mm (the average squash blossom necklace has 6mm to 7mm beads). The edges of the beads are smooth and comfortable around your neck. The gem quality Blue Gem turquoise is the quintessential blue/green by which all other turquoise should be judged. Each piece is carefully selected to highlight the matrix at or near the center of the cabochon. This produces a balance that subconsciously affects the senses. Each cabochon is set in smooth bezel, in a shadowbox setting, with a hand-stamped frame. The naja echoes and magnifies the blossoms and the stamp work. A carefully constructed work of art.Although this necklace is not stamped with the Benally\'s usual hallmark (KJB), the provenance is impeccable. I acquired it from the private collection of Robert (Bob) and Cozette Reichle, and this is their story: In the 70\'s and 80\'s they made numerous trips to New Mexico and Arizona where they purchased pieces directly from either the Indian Artists or their Trading Partners.
