A very interesting group of Australian WWII Medals 2/20th Battalion Pte T Lewis NX30784 born in Bulli NSW - escaped Singapore on board the MS Gorgon. Comes with plenty of research. Private Thomas Lewis escaped Singapore on the MS Gorgon He and group of other Australians paddled out on two sampams and 'asked' to be taken aboard. The Gorgon was attacked several times by Japanese aircraft. The ships master was awarded an OBE for getting the Gorgon to Singapore relatively unscathed.

There is mention of two groups of soldiers boarding the Gorgon in the book "Singapore Burning" by Colin Smith. An extract of this is included.

Upon arrival in Fremantle Lewis was detained whilst the incient was investigated. He was soon after discharged with "nervous debility". He never married and never claimed his medals and died in 1973.

All medals are correctly named and his full entitlement.
