Sasshiro Kubo
1872 to 1944, a doll artist of the early Showa period.
Born in 1872.
Studied under Eikichi Yoshino.
In 1928 he formed the Hakutaku group with Goyo Hirata and others and promoted the art doll movement.
He revived carved and painted dolls in the lineage of Saga ningyo.
Most of his works were lost in war damage, but examples such as Ningyotsukai and Shibaraku remain in the Tekiho Doll Memorial Museum in Saitama.
He died on March 9, 1944 at age 73.
