Genuine Silk Komon Fabric
(Single-item kimono with full custom tailoring)Kimono Pattern Details
This kimono features a dragon village pattern on a blackish brown fabric with a crisp touch. The dragon village pattern is a classic design representing Amami depicting geometric patterns of sotetsu leaves and fruits naturally occurring in Amami for women's use. Authentic Oshima Tsumugi is handwoven on Amami Oshima and in Kagoshima City. It is characterized by a thin glossy fabric and intricate kasuri patterns. Furthermore the unique dyeing process known as mud dyeing performed only on Amami Oshima worldwide involves dyeing with teak wood (sappanwood) and repeatedly immersing the fabric in iron-rich mud and kneading it. This process results in a deep glossy subdued black color and a durable fabric that can be passed down for three generations.
Handling of Mud-Dyed Oshima
Mud-dyed Oshima Tsumugi and similar fabrics are superior textiles dyed with botanical dyes (such as sappanwood) through a special mud dyeing process which may result in some color fading. When wearing mud-dyed Oshima Tsumugi especially with white-tone obi belts please be cautious of water spills sweat friction etc. and enjoy using it with care.
