A stunning, monumental solid silver inkwell with a dedication to André Masséna:

The inscription reads exactly as follows:

"A MASSÉNA / MARÉCHAL D'EMPIRE / PRINCE D'ESSLING / DUC DE RIVOLI / L'ARMÉE D'ITALIE"

The historical significance of the inscription: André Masséna (1758–1817) was nicknamed "l'Enfant chéri de la Victoire" (the cherished child of victory) by Napoleon himself. The listed titles reflect his highest honors: Duke of Rivoli (for the 1797 victory) and Prince of Essling (for his heroic conduct during the 1809 battle).
